As you figured out, the “B” identifies any mid-year engineering changes—IF—there were any changes. Could be as simple as a screw or as significant as a piston. But don’t worry about it unless you go to order parts and find the parts book says “B models only”. Otherwise, it means nothing if there were no changes.
