Your local mechanic is only interested in making a quick dollar and old outboards are not his preference. One of our local members from your area can help resurrect your Mark 25.
Last summer, my neighbor purchased a 1958 Johnson 18HP that was a total wreck for $100 even after I suggested he pass on his purchase. As he left the dealer’s shop, the seller saluted him and told him "good luck!" It was a total basket case, but I hate to see people screwed with an old outboard, so he and I are rebuilding it from all of my scrap motors. He cannot wait to take it back by the dealer and show him his prize.
Like my neighbor, you need to join AOMCI if you haven’t already and support a local chapter. You will not be disappointed in the unlimited help and advice you will receive for no cost other than membership fees. Enjoy your new toy.
