Talked to Peter McDowell today same dull aluminum used on both Johnson and Mercs. Checked the compression today top cylinder is 110 lbs and bottom is 80lbs. There is no play when the pistons are in the middle of thier stroke but when they reach tdc and switch to thier downward movement there is definately some play-slop for lack of a better term. In other words the crank will move slightly before the pistons start to move. Also seems to be some resistance turning the crank with the plugs out. Do these things seem normal?the resistance almost feels like a bad crank bearing?
