I was a buyer for a major department store chain in NYC for 21 years. I would often hear from the customers “how come you don’t have anything made in America”? Well after many years of this, I bought a few items (when I could find a USA supplier, since most had moved their production out of the country). The USA items cost more than their overseas counterparts, even with the offshore products shipping and duties. Well long story short …..the customers didn’t buy them, why, they said they were too expensive. Unfortunately in most cases, the consumer shops price tag first. It’s no mystery why price driven chains like Walmart, and Harbor Freight have done so well.
