Your motor is considered a 1928 according to the serial guides, but in reality it was built in 1927. Serial number 60050 may be the earliest example known. A friend has 60057 and much of it matches your motor. If you choose to replace the serial plate with a reproduction please keep the original safely stored with the motor to prove its provenance.

The 1927 (hard tank) Speedster has some very unique features that separate it from later 1928 (soft tank) Speedsters. Most obvious are the cast aluminium fuel tank and the non-water cooled exhaust manifolds. The exhaust manifolds were prone to cracking from the exhaust heat. This is likely why your motor sports cottage racer manifolds. Later 1928-29 exhaust manifolds were a factory replacement and would not be incorrect for this motor if you choose to restore the exhaust.

It appears you have a Light Twin (Ruddertwin) timer so you may also have the corresponding flywheel. It would be worth correcting those parts as it would affect performance or possibly it’s ability to run. It you post a photo of the underside of your flywheel I can tell you if you have a Light Twin or Speedster flywheel.

You have found one very old and special Speedster. Congratulations. I hope you enjoy it for many years.
