I checked it with a meter and the primary pegged out secondary doesn’t budge the needle. I think I’m gonna unsolder everything (ground wire points wire kill switch) completely remove the coils and try again. I was thinking the same thing, they looked pretty solid built so what’s the odds they both went bad? I’ll check a good set with my meter but it’s new so shouldn’t be a problem, although it is a cheapo but I really like it, it has the needle and a large face on it. I hope I’m wrong, as I say I’d like to keep the mechanics original.
