    As some one has already posted, the gear case could have had water in it. I have a 1959 35hp Johnson that had that problem. Parts are easy to find for this motor so hopefully you will have this motor up and running soon. You will have to drop the lower to replace the impeller so that would be a good time to see if its the powerhead that’s stuck.
