“Maybe I should have made a gasket for the test plate”
You can’t see it too well in my other picture Buc but I glued a piece of rubber to the back of the plates and it does help the seal. If someone wanted to use an original plate instead of making one this would also block all the holes off.
I like your idea of blocking off the rear water intake from the inside to help direct the flow up.
