    Careful what you bet on, Dave. That OMC drive shaft runs in an isolation tube. The isolation tube must be sealed top to bottom to keep exhaust gasses from entering the cowling and smothering the motor. The seal in the pump housing keeps the isolation tube from being overwhelmed by water.
