Gale 5-1/2??? We don’t even know what motor we are talking about. But later posts suggest a Gale 5hp. They don’t even have a cylinder head gasket. But they do have a cylinder water cover gasket. No copper fire rings on those. Furthermore there are two types of Gale 5hp powerheads. Assuming the ones with a gearshift. Yes, my personal opinion is use sealant on the cover gasket on that type.
