If you have a Harbor Freight nearby, they sell a good inline spark tester. https://www.harborfreight.com/90-in-line-spark-checker-63593.html Attatch, put mag/throttle lever to Start, pull rope, look for light. Easier if you have a helper to pull or look. Minimal lighting helps. NO GAS IN CARB/MOTOR!!!! Months ago I got a Lightwin 3hp at an estate sale, looked great. Ignored my own personal rules, mixed up some fuel and put in a quarter tank. Was about to head outdoors to the test tank, remembered I forgot to test for spark first. Hooked the tester up, advanced the mag and gave her a pull. After very quickly shutting it down, I realized a few things. 1. I am a bonehead sometimes. 2. Don’t rush things. 3. A few seconds of running really fills a two stall garage with smoke very well. 4. She ran great. 5. Didn’t check the petcock to make sure it was closed before adding gas. While airing out the garage I test tanked her. Great runner, pumped good.
If you have too many, AND not enough, you're a collector.
