I have a puller like the one you have a link to on ebay . I have used it to remove every flywheel on classic motors that I have worked on with no problems except larger two cylinder OMC’s. I never have had a problem with 4 or 6 cylinder Merc’s. It helps a lot to use an air impact when tightening the large center screw–but also leave the flywheel nut on the crank flush with the top of the crank. This will help to prevent mushrooming of the end of the crank and keeping the flywheel from flying off the crank in case it releases suddenly.
