I’d look for a Johnson JW series 3hp motor. They are reasonable, and plentiful. They run like a top after they have been serviced, and are very reliable. I prefer the 1952 through 1962 models because they have both an adjustable high and low speed jet.
Evinrude made their own carburators on those early motors. They can be finicky to say the least!
