    I have a properly functioning compression relief on my 1959 Evinrude Big Twin. I would bet if you’re not strong enough to pull the rope without the compression relief, youre you’re not strong enough to pull the rope fast enough to start it with the reduced compression. You really have to spin the thing over to get it to start with the compression relief functioning.
