The 7.5 volt battery was meant to be used for the coil power, coil continuity, and resistance tests. They require DC current. It can be replaced with a 7.2 volt rechargeable drill battery. The 120 volt AC circuits are meant for capacitor tests. Neither power will do all tests. I use a 7.5 volt DC wall-wart for my 98. R.T.
