First, I have not received engine as of yet. The deal is closed just working out pickup. It’s a very well kept original with spares.
Regarding the posts;
Good points and I have taken them into consideration, thanks. Yes, I will be beyond an arms reach from the engine.
Regarding spark advance; plan to look at current mag stop and that will be maintained via cable and whatever mechanism is required to make it work. If I have to make a new mag stop or not, we’ll see. I am also capable of determining the maximum advance via a dial indicator so that it is not exceeded.
Regarding the kill switch, most likely, especially with a non gearshift engine of twenty some hp, easy task. Looking back to the past, since many of us grew up running engines without ignition kills, shut down was no problem as we retarded the timing and carb to shut it down just prior to our landing point. If we misjudged we either hit the dock or paddled the rest of the way. As with most of you, did it both ways.
Current plan is to use a control box with 33C cables and required adapter ends. With 33C ends at the engine it leaves me a variety of approaches to interface with the engine as far as cable ends. I am also considering the late 50’s Evinrude box, it’s a matter of how it lays out. Must be clean, look good, and actually work.
Once done, I wonder if the Coasties might have a problem with the fact that the "neutral safety" doesn’t function except when the engine is off. How did we as a society ever manage to get this far.
Thanks again.
