Frank, some days my brain just don’t work like I’d like. I forgot that the LU has “blue” paint
on it……. can’t be the original… duh.
I was looking at those “threads” on the driveshaft again. Only thing I can think of that it’s
a homemade stop so the pinion gear doesn’t bottom out on the splines. Perhaps some kind
of backlash control?

Will look at some Evinrude lower unit diagrams on ME and see if they jive with what I got!

The “loose” drive shaft bushing was an engineering change back then also. It’s supposed to spin.
