Lloyd, I pulled the top crankcase “packing” out, and it’s a thin, rubber only, flat
o-ring of sorts. I think a R-02 o-ring may work in it’s place. Believe the bottom one
is a different size, and haven’t pulled it apart yet.

I’ve use the flax packing (valve stem) packing on prop shafts before.
I’ll have to look again and see if using that is an option.
