    Since problem is solved, I guess this is moot. But if I had to make one, I think I would explore the possibility of using a new Nitrophyl float for the 18-up motors of later years and see if it could be cut and shaped to fit the original brass hinge. OR, even the Nitrophyl one that replaces the cork float in newer QD’s etc. Just thinking out loud.
