Here’s a trick I learned over at the Coleman Lantern forum. Lye. And the easiest source is Easy Off oven cleaner. NOT the "no fumes" stuff, but the heavy duty stuff. It may take 2 or 3 tries, but it’s easier to find, and does a fine job. I’ve done several pieces and never had to sand.
