The magnet is just there for looks, so it looks more like a magneto
instead of a homemade timer. I believe it was off an F-12 Farmall
tractor, which I no longer have. The magnet is just sitting there
loose, so looking for a way to mount it. I built the timer out
of aluminum, so the magnet ain’t staying there by itself, lol.

so why are you attempting to drill a hole in the (magneto) magnet? The old iron magnets are glass hard, not drilable with normal tools. If you heat the magnet it will no longer be a magnet.
