O K, I got a lot of information here. I have just been using hardware store stuff. I ordered a couple different ropes recommended at the proper diameter for stock size 7/32. I was thinking of using something to pad next to the knot too. Shrink wrap may help. I am going to mention to my friend about proper pull starting. He probably has a 6’6" reach and hitting the end of the rope is not good.
Should be able to get him fixed up and learned a bit about recoils for myself.
